The highlight of the trip is Lesendro, a small fortress that rises from the water near the fishing village of Vranjina. Built in the 18th century, it once stood as a proud defender of Montenegro.

During the time of Petar II Petrović-Njegoš, Lesendro protected local fishermen and merchants from Ottoman attacks. Petar II himself often came here to rest — and it’s easy to see why. The views are peaceful, the air fresh, and time seems to slow down.

Lesendro was under Montenegrin rule for 11 years, until 1843, when Ottoman forces led by Osman Pasha captured it along with Vranjina. It remained under their control until 1878, when both Lesendro and Žabljak Crnojevića were finally liberated and reunited with Montenegro.

Today, the fortress stands quietly above the lake, surrounded by reeds, birds, and reflections on the water — a perfect stop for photos and a glimpse into Skadar’s timeless charm.
